The River Bend Police Department has confirmed that a handgun was found in a child’s diaper bag at Excel Learning Center on Monday morning.
Officials confirmed that the child was around toddler-age.
According to a release from the River Bend Police Department, officers were dispatched to 440 Pirates Rd. in reference to a firearm being found in a diaper bag. The firearm was located by staff. A responding officer secured the firearm and no one was injured.
Per the release, "The River Bend Police Department is currently investigating this incident and working with the Department of Social Services and in communication with the District Attorney's Office. This is an ongoing investigation and we will release more information at a later date."
Excel Learning Center is on Pirates Rd. in Craven County.
